GM introduces yet another stylish electric Cadillac crossover.

In a recent press release, GM’s Cadillac division has unveiled plans for a fourth electric vehicle (EV) crossover called the VISTIQ. This expands their lineup to four EV crossovers, starting with the OPTIQ as the most affordable, followed by the LYRIQ, the newly introduced VISTIQ, and the Escalade IQ positioned at the top.

John Roth, vice president of Global Cadillac, expressed the significance of the VISTIQ in broadening Cadillac’s EV offerings and reinforcing their commitment to an electric future. Roth stated, “VISTIQ adds another compelling EV to the Cadillac lineup, reinforcing our commitment to an electric future. Our brand now has an EV entry in most luxury segments, offering customers a range of choices, and Cadillac EVs will cover most luxury SUV segments across critical global markets in the next two years.”

However, detailed information about the VISTIQ remains scarce, with additional details expected to be disclosed next year. The vehicle’s seating capacity, whether it accommodates five or seven passengers, remains uncertain, though its size suggests the potential inclusion of a third-row, albeit potentially cramped.

Expressing concerns, the author questions the strategic decision behind introducing another luxury crossover, especially amidst the current trend emphasizing the importance of affordable electric vehicles.

Drawing on the lessons of 2023, where EVs faced challenges in sales, the author suggests that GM and other manufacturers should prioritize affordability. Citing the example of Tesla’s successful approach in 2013, the author argues that the industry needs to rethink its strategy, emphasizing the creation of a new ladder for EV adoption.

Instead of focusing on high-end luxury EV crossovers, the author suggests GM should consider producing an affordable 7-seat electric vehicle, proposing the development of a cramped, 7-seat rear-wheel-drive variant of the Bolt EUV. This potential model, named the Bolt EXT, would cater to the demand for cost-effective EVs in the crossover market, aiming for a balance between affordability and functionality.
