Ja Morant’s Positive Comeback: The Buzzer-Beater Heard Around the NBA
Ja Morant had been away for a while, but he made a stunning comeback for the Memphis Grizzlies. In a crucial game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Morant hit a game-winning buzzer-beater, securing a big 115-113 victory.
The reason for Morant’s absence was a suspension imposed by the NBA. He, the star point guard of the Grizzlies, faced consequences for actions that the league deemed detrimental. This stemmed from incidents where he appeared to display a gun on Instagram Live twice in two months. The league handed an eight-game suspension for the first incident and a more severe punishment of 25 games without pay for the second.
During Morant’s absence, the Grizzlies faced challenges and struggled in their games. As of now, their record is 7 wins and 19 losses, placing them 13th in the Western Conference despite the recent victory.
Morant expressed his determination and love for the game after the triumphant return. He mentioned going through tough times during the suspension but emphasized that basketball is his passion and a source of therapy for him. He spoke about the excitement of being back on the court.
Morant’s game-winning shot was nothing short of spectacular. He spun into the lane, maneuvered between two opponents, and released the ball off the backboard, securing the win for the Grizzlies. In the game, he scored 34 points, tied for the highest in the match, and contributed with six rebounds, eight assists, and two steals.
Post-game, Morant thanked his teammates, referring to them as “brothers” who supported him throughout the suspension. He acknowledged their collective effort, including hard practices, light practices, treatments, and flights. Morant believes in the unity of the team and how their belief in him showed during the game.
The Grizzlies are optimistic about Morant’s return being a turning point for the team. They are currently five-and-a-half games away from an automatic playoff spot.
Supporting Morant in this game were Jaren Jackson Jr., who scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Desmond Bane, contributing 21 points and four assists.
On the other side, the Pelicans, led by Brandon Ingram’s 34 points, couldn’t stop the Grizzlies from ending their four-game winning streak.
Looking ahead, the Grizzlies are scheduled to play the Indiana Pacers in Memphis, while the Pelicans will face the Cleveland Cavaliers in Ohio on Thursday.
