Nissan Motors gives a additional Hike in Wages after the UAW deal
Nov 20 (Reuters) – Nissan Motors gives a Hike in Wages by 10% in January after the United Auto Workers union reached new contracts with the Detroit Three automakers, the company delegate said on Monday
The Japanese automaker announced that the wage increase will take effect from January 8 for production engineers, maintenance engineers, and tool and mold engineers. Employees who are not yet working at the top level can also receive a raise. In total, about 9,000 U.S. workers will receive pay increases. Nissan also said it would eliminate pay scales for its U.S. manufacturing employees. In recent weeks, Hyundai Motor Co. (005380.KS), Toyota Motor Corporation (7203.T) and Honda Co. (7267.T) have all announced that they will raise wages at their U.S. factories in response to the UAW contract. As the union says, it will participate in organizing non-union factories run by foreign automakers and Tesla.
Nissan said the pay increases reflect the company’s commitment to its U.S. employees and will “strengthen its competitiveness.”
The UAW collective bargaining agreement with General Motors (GM.N), Ford Motor Co., and Stellantis provides for a 25% increase in base wages through 2028, including an immediate 11% increase, bringing the maximum wage to 33% overall. % increase, estimated wage increase. Cost of living adjustment is over $42 per hour.
Additionally, the number of years it takes to reach the maximum salary has been shortened from eight years to three, and the salaries of temporary employees have been increased by 150% to make them permanent employees. The deal also includes significant improvements to severance benefits.
The UAW has been unsuccessfully trying for decades to organize auto plants for foreign automakers. UAW President Sean Fein was in Washington last week for a conference on the union’s organizing strategy.
President Joe Biden has supported the UAW in its push to unionize other automakers.
Nissan announced that it has increased wages across its three manufacturing sites by 12 to 18.5 percent over the past three years. Previously, the period required to reach the maximum salary was reduced from 8 years to 4 years. Two days of paid vacation have been added, and paid parental leave for production employees has been increased.
