On a recent Wednesday, Ryan Gosling, known for his role as Ken alongside Margot Robbie’s Barbie in a film, treated fans to the “I’m Just Ken” EP. This release was a collaboration with Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. The EP not only features the original ’80s-style power ballad from the movie, also titled “I’m Just Ken,” but also includes three remixes.

The remixes add a fresh touch to the song, offering different vibes. There’s the stripped-down “I’m Just Ken (In My Feelings Acoustic),” the dance-ready “I’m Just Ken (Purple Disco Machine Remix),” and the holiday-themed “I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie).”

Accompanying the festive remix is an official music video. The video provides a behind-the-scenes look at Gosling, Wyatt, and Ronson working on the holiday remix in a studio adorned with Christmas lights.

The trio, along with a full band, two cellists, four violinists, and a glockenspiel, bring a joyful and whimsical energy to the song. In one amusing moment, Gosling dons sunglasses, explaining that “the world can have Ken’s voice but only Barbie can have his eyes.” The video captures the camaraderie and fun the collaborators had while creating this holiday twist on the original track.

The lyrics of “I’m Just Ken” became memorable, especially the catchy chorus: “I’m just Ken, anywhere else I’d be a 10.” Back in July, Ronson, who served as the executive producer of the “Barbie” soundtrack, shared that he usually contributes music exclusively to film songs.

However, “I’m Just Ken” was an exception. Ronson couldn’t resist a few lyrics that ultimately made it into the final cut.

The song has received recognition and nominations, adding to its acclaim. “I’m Just Ken” is nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 2024 Grammy Awards and is also in contention for the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

As the song competes for these prestigious awards, its whimsical and catchy nature, along with the holiday remix, has brought joy to fans. The EP showcases the versatility of the original track, from its ’80s power ballad style to festive and acoustic renditions, making it a delightful addition to Ryan Gosling’s musical contributions.
